Free outdoor courts
Palmer Park at 17999 Woodward Ave has 6 dedicated outdoor pickleball courts. There is no fee and no reservation system; the park is open 6 AM to 10 PM.
Romanowski Park at 4795 Lonyo St has 2 free outdoor courts, open dawn to dusk.
Clark Park at 4301 W Vernor Hwy has 1 free outdoor court, also open dawn to dusk.
City recreation centers (membership required)
Detroit's recreation centers convert gym space to pickleball and require a Detroit Recreation membership through the city's RecTrac system to play.
Patton Recreation Center, 2301 Woodmere St, has 2 indoor courts. It is open Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 9 PM, confirmed on the city's Patton Recreation Center page.
Coleman A. Young Recreation Center, 2751 Robert Bradby Dr, has 2 indoor courts and is open the same Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 9 PM hours. The center's listed phone is 313-628-0995, per the city's own recreation center page.
Heilmann Recreation Center is at 19601 Brock Ave, with 2 indoor courts, open Monday through Friday 8 AM to 9 PM and Saturday 9 AM to 5 PM.
Chandler Park Fieldhouse, 12300 Chandler Park Dr, is the newest option: the city opened this $14 million, 130,000-square-foot fieldhouse in August 2025, and its basketball courts convert to 2 pickleball courts. It is open Monday through Friday 7 AM to 9 PM and Saturday 8 AM to 5 PM. A Detroit Recreation membership is required; city officials have described the fee as nominal, with waivers for youth programs.
Membership clubs
Boll Family YMCA downtown at 1401 Broadway has 2 indoor courts, open to members or with a guest pass, Monday through Friday 6 AM to 9 PM.
Eastside Tennis & Fitness Club, 18201 E Warren Ave, has 4 indoor courts for members, with singles and doubles court time available to book.
Court4 Detroit, 4300 Marseilles St, is a members-only indoor club with 8 dedicated pickleball courts plus 2 tennis courts, LED-lit and open year-round. It runs seasonal leagues, lessons and drop-in drills for members.
Bigger picture
Detroit's newest pickleball investment is Chandler Park Fieldhouse on the city's east side, part of a wider push to put year-round indoor recreation in neighborhoods that previously had none. Combined with the three free outdoor parks and the existing recreation centers, Detroit now has indoor options on both the east and west sides of the city alongside its free park courts.
